Eucalyptus regnans

Experiences From A Chilean Eucalyptus Forest

Eucalyptus regnans, also known as mountain ash, swamp gum, or stringy gum, is a species of medium-sized to very tall forest tree. Eucalyptus Regnans is perhaps an underestimated wood raw material in the pulp mills, because it is in some conditions very difficult to handle. This wood is very fast growing and the wood diameter at the ground level can easily grow to over 1 meter in diameter within only 35 years.

The bark of this eucalyptus species is very difficult to crush and the drum debarkers cannot handle this wood material. Eucalyptus Regnans wood is however easy to debark when the wood is fresh. The bark removal from the drum debarker is always difficult.

Please contact me if you are in need of expert solutions to handle very difficult raw wood materials such as acacia, eucalyptus nitens and eucalyptus regnans.

  • Eucalyptus regnans
The loose bark is as long as the log length. The bark is like "nylon rope" and it can be cut only by knife or saw.
  • This Eucalyptus regnans tree is only 35 years old, but the diameter at the ground level was already over 1 meter thick.
  • The fresh Eucalyptus regnans is easy to debark even by bare hands.
